We Review the Relaxonchair Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair

We Review the Relaxonchair Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair. Here’e what we found

The Relaxonchair Zero Gravity Shiatsu, also known as MK-II Plus, is a  massage chair that stacks up really well against similar products from mainstream brands. It is a great investment for  anyone dealing with chronic pain. The chair is big enough to satisfy your needs and ensure comfort yet small enough to fit in a small apartment.

Taking into account that this is a non branded product, it is understandable that you might be sceptic to invest. After-all, such companies tend to have problematic customer support. This stems from the tendency by non branded companies to import products from China and put their label on them before offering them for sale. The good news is that this isn’t an issue you’ll have to worry about when you purchase from Relaxonchair. Their customer support, is a notch above most non -branded companies.

Zero Gravity Positioning

The main selling point of the Relaxonchair Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair is that it incorporates true Zero Gravity positioning. It features three Zero Gravity positions, thus helping to take the pressure and strain off your spine.

This feature enhances your experience as the chair  can slide forward as the headrest moves downward. This elevates your knees to the level of the heart, which greatly reduces the discomfort on the lower back. It also helps taking the strain of your heart and   relieves your body of stress. Not many chairs on the market have this feature.

A few models offer one position and even less offer three Zero Gravity positions. The MK-II plus is in the very small group, making it a worthwhile investment for anyone who purchases it.

Decompression Button

Another feature that sets the MK-II Plus apart from the competition is its special decompression button. Available via the control panel, pressing this button prompts the massage chair to do a full body scan and measure the length of your spine.

It pinpoints the locations of your spine where a massage is needed, thus giving you a more accurate massage. By so doing, the decompression button eliminates the need for you to shift occasionally in a bid to hit the right spots.

L-Track Massage System

Otherwise known as the extended roller track, the L-track massage system is an extended version of the S-track system. It  extends beyond the lower back and top hamstrings. Unlike older models that only use airbags to massage the user, the incorporation of an L-track massage system in this chair means that you almost get   a full  body massage experience with the rollers.

Despite the fact that a few customers complained about the usage of this feature, stating that the track doesn’t extend very far, the rollers do reach the glutes and the back of the thighs.. However, for an entry-level chair to have the L-track system at all is nothing short of amazing. Relaxonchair refers to this feature in their user’s manual as the Buttlock Tracking System.

Heating Pads

This chair comes with two heating pads in the lower back region. They are quite large and exceed expectations by providing heat all the way to the mid-back. Not many massage chairs come with heating pads and finding one that does at the lower end of the price range can prove difficult.

As such, this counts as a huge plus for the Zero Gravity Shiatsu. The downside to this feature is that you don’t get to control the temperature. It does not have a feature to adjust the heat settings. Even with this disadvantage, the presence of heating pads adds therapeutic value to the product.

First Generation Airbags

The Zero Gravity Shiatsu comes with 20 First Generation airbags that are strategically placed. That is a decent number of airbags for an entry-level massage chair. While not in the class of a branded product, these airbags are adequate and do a good job of giving you a full body massage.

Modest Number of Options

The Zero Gravity Shiatsu offers a modest number of options when it comes to massage techniques and programs. It offers three standard massage techniques including Kneading and Tapping and Kneading and Tapping combined. Also included is Shiatsu and Rolling. The pre-programmed massage routines include relaxation, stretch, deep tissue and rejuvenate.

You can access five additional massages from the remote to target specific parts of the body. This allows you to zero in on areas of the body that hurt if you don’t want a full body massage. It is important to note that while it does sound like you have too many options, there are only slight variations among them. At the end of the day, there are just three options and a few targeted massage options. This is pretty good, considering the low price of this chair.

Computerized Control Panel

Unlike other chairs from rival brands, the Zero Gravity Shiatsu features a computerized control panel. It sits on a stand on the left side of the armrest and despite looking very technical, it is actually very easy to use.

The control panel is large enough to see clearly even without eyeglasses. It allows you easy access to 4 different massage programs not to mention 3 intensities and manual settings. You can choose how fast or strong your massages should be. Lastly, all of the buttons are backlit for better visibility.

Calf Foot Massage

The airbags located in the leg massage ports help render a great calf massage while simple rollers attend to your feet soles. This chair offers an  aggressive foot roller massage. The downside to this feature is that the foot massage can be too strong for people with sensitive feet.

However, you can get around this issue by laying a washcloth at the bottom of feet, wearing extra socks or even installing shoe inserts. Other than that, the calf foot massage will give you much needed relief after a long day on your feet.

Body Stretch

The body stretch function isn’t as strong as most customers would like it to be. However, the fact that it is present in a budget-priced chair is quite unique. The feature provides plenty of therapeutic benefit and  provides pain relief by reducing the pressure on the compressed discs in your spine.

Considering that the chair offers deep tissue massage, it is a little surprising that the stretch function isn’t more aggressive. It is quite mild and will prove beneficial to someone who suffers from chronic back pain.

Extendable Ottoman

There isn’t much to say about the ottoman except that it comes with an extendable module. This allows the chair to perform various massage techniques by mimicking the same kind of motion used by professional massage therapists. It also makes it easy for the chair to accommodate people of different heights up to 6’3”.

Concerns

No consumer product is perfect and as such, it is incredibly important to understand the drawbacks of any product before making a purchase. That way, you can decide if you can live with the shortcomings and still make the product a good value for your money. That said, there are a few drawbacks to the Zero Gravity Shiatsu. Here are the negative aspects of this chair you should be aware of.

A little too intense

The rollers, particularly those in the foot area, can be a little intense for people with sensitive feet. Wearing light house slippers, placing shoe inserts in the foot rest or wearing socks can help lessen the intensity.

Loud beeps on remote control

There have been complaints by customers that the remote control produced loud beeps that cannot be turned off. For some customers, this is not a deal breaker because it doesn’t really interrupt the massage.

Lacks S-track

Unlike the MK-IV, the MK-II Plus only comes with the L-Track system. This means that it doesn’t entirely reach around your derriere like the S-track massage system. While this doesn’t mean that the Zero Gravity Shiatsu isn’t an effective chair, the absence of an S-track is certainly indicative of the lower price.

Complicated warranty

This product may be backed by a 3-year warranty, but this coverage is not as comprehensive as we’d like. For starters, the parts are only fully covered during the first year. The company offers an extended coverage to the structural framework for the next two years.

Conclusion

The Relaxonchair Zero Gravity Shiatsu isn’t without its fair share of drawbacks. But it makes up for what it lacks with great features for a low-budget massage chair. It is a great investment for someone who suffers from chronic back pain.
